This Non-drowsy Bronchial Balsam is formulated to give gentle relief from sore throats, coughs, colds and catarrh, and can be taken every hour.
Properties
Menthol - a substance that inhibits coughing, either by lessening the irritability of the respiratory nerves or by aiding in the removal of irritating substances from the airways.
Aniseed Oil - aniseed oil has expectorant effects and is consequently commonly found as an ingredient in cough mixtures and lozenges. It also exhibits a characteristic taste and adds to the flavour of the finished product.
Capsicum - ground cayenne pepper is a mixture of varieties of capsicum and it is the characteristic warming effect of capsicum which is noticeable in this product.
Glycerin - soothes the mucous membranes.
Benzoin - often used in inhalations for the treatment of catarrh and upper respiratory tract infections.
Balsam Tolu - this extract from the tree Myroxylon balsamum is considered to have very mild antiseptic properties and some expectorant action.
Clove Oil - possesses slight analgesic action and has useful preservative properties.
Ginger Oleoresin - possesses characteristic warming effect and contributes to the flavour.
Peppermint oil - relieves gastric and intestinal flatulence and colic.
